From next year, French people whose mobile phone screens are damaged will be able to count on financial aid from the state to repair them. The measure was confirmed by the Minister of Ecological Transition, Christophe Béchu, in an interview with the Ouest-France newspaper.
For some time now, this country has been contributing 25 euros to the repair of smartphones, but from January 1, 2024 the measure that confirms that this will also help repair the screen of smartphones comes into force, with a different amount than the one already implemented. This amount can reach €500 depending on the smartphone model. With this measure, France wants to further encourage the repair and consequent extension of the life of smartphones, since their production from scratch encompasses various polluting processes and materials.
Despite this good news, there are conditions attached. These repairs will only be monetarily supported if the user proves that the screen has broken accidentally or has been caused by the natural wear and tear of use. This support will be part of the package already implemented in 2022 that is called “repair bonus” and encourages citizens to repair electronic devices, preventing them from buying new ones. In addition to smartphones, about 50 products are also included in this package and more and more repair sites are joining this incentive.
