Alternative Dispute Resolution

If you have a problem with a purchase or repair, talk to us first — we resolve the vast majority of cases quickly. If we can't reach an agreement, you can turn to an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) body: a free or low-cost process that is faster and less formal than the courts.

Information

The centre explains your rights and reviews the complaint.

Mediation

An impartial mediator contacts both parties and seeks an agreement.

Arbitration

If there is no agreement, an arbitrator decides. The decision has the same force as a judgment of a court of first instance.

Disputes up to €5,000

For consumer disputes worth up to €5,000, if you are a consumer and choose arbitration at a consumer arbitration centre, Micro Wire is required to take part (mandatory arbitration, Portuguese Law No. 63/2019).

Julgados de Paz and courts

Using ADR is voluntary (except for mandatory arbitration) and does not stop you from going to the Julgados de Paz (Portuguese small-claims courts), which handle cases up to €15,000, or to the ordinary courts.
